The water cannot move by itself. It is true that water move from high to lower ground because of gravity. What if people on the higher ground want water?
Water pump is a device for delivering water from one place to another and for increasing water pressure. There are two main components of a water pump; pump head and motor.
Motor changes electric power into rotating power. It delivers power to rotate pump’s shaft which has impeller at the end. This rotated impeller generates water pressure and water volume.
Pump head is chamber gathering water input and passing water with pressure. How high water pressure and water volume depends on impeller type.
In this article, we will show you types of water pumps and what different they are.
Water pumps are divided into four types by usage as below:
1. Centrifugal Pumps has both vertical and horizontal types. Horizontal pumps are the most popular pumps and most applicable. It is used in the industry, irrigation and residences. Centrifugal pump is capable for delivery water in medium to large volumes and with high water pressure. This pump is often selected for booster pump set to boosting water pressure and making it automatic. Anyhow, its disadvantage is this pump cannot make water suction by itself. User needs to prime water in the pump head to help pump pull up water and delivery.
2. Automatic Water Pump, or called home pump, is suitable for houses, residences, and townhouses. Mostly this kind of pump has low kilowatt and be suitable to use in limited area space. This water pump will start working immediately when the faucet turns on. Water pump will stop working when the faucet turns off. In Addition, it can be connected with the water heater and washing machine
3. Submersible Water Pump is a pump installed under water. Its motor is completely sealed so it can be submerged while it is operating. Submersible pump use water to cool motor down during operation. There are selection for drainage which water contains no particle and wastewater type. There is automatic type equipped with built-in float switch as option. When the water volume is high, the float will be lifted up and pump will run. Yet, when the pump runs out, the float is lower down and pump stops. Submersible pump is mostly used for pumping out water during raining.
4. Self-priming water has similar application as centrifugal pump but it needs no priming. By special design, pump head can contain water in enough volume and let no air inside. It can
To summarize, there are 4 types of water pump including Centrifugal Pumps, Automatic Water Pump, Submersible Water Pump and Self-priming water pump.
User should know how different of each type in order to select for the appropriate water pump.
